London Marathon 2026 – I am coming for you!

By Eileen

Oh dear…..when I entered the ballot for the London Marathon 2026 the last thing I expected to get was the You’re In email!

ย  ย

I hear so many times how people have been trying for 15 years and more for a ballot place without success – yet here I am with a ballot place. For which I am very grateful – so now I have some work to do and have already started.

  • 40 weeks from today will be Sunday 26th April 2026 – London Marathon Day.
  • Its like the Birth of a Marathon for me.
  • I need to train and strengthen my body in preparation.
  • I want to lose the excess weight I am carrying (mostly around my middle area) as surely this will make training easier – and will definately benefit my health and wellbeing.
  • I want to be on that start line in 40 weeks time knowing I have done my utmost best to make the best use of my ballot place
  • I will be just 3.5 weeks away from being 66 years of age when I run my first – and probably last – London Marathon

Base training – I started some base training already so will be doing my running sessions 4 times a week with 2 short runs during the week and 2 longer ones at the weekend. This will ensure I am out doing some training before the actual marathon plan kicks in around Christmas time – which will be a 16 week marathon training that will kick in then.

Strength training -I will be picking that up this week and doing 2-3 weight training sessions a week to build…..strength

Mobility/flexibility – I really need to get focussed in this area as feel I am not strong here. I am some plans to follow and as long as I stay consistent I should make good progress.

Nutrition – will be cutting out the highly processed “Stuff” that have crept into my diet more over recent years (since I gave up alcohol) which is mostly things like pastries (I love a pastry), brownies, crisps and chocolate) I will blog more about this in the coming weeks – but I want to seriously focus on dropping those extra pounds now.

  • I know training and weight loss is all about consistency and if I fall off plan, its about getting back on it
  • It’s about doing things even when I might not feel like in order to reach my goal.
  • The reward will be SO worth it.

My question to you?

Is there ONE thing you would like to achieve by the time the London Marathon comes around in 40 weeks time. It can be a small goal or a BIG one. You decide.

If that “something” niggles away at you then why not set a goal and get a plan in place and start taking ACTION tomorrow.

How would it feel on London Marathon day to wake up, when I am on that start line, knowing YOU have reached that goal that has been hanging around for ages. It would feel AMAZING so why not start tomorrow – come on a 40 week journey with me.

It will feel so much better than waking up on London Marathon day thinking……..I have still got that goal I’ve not done anything about.

SO are you coming on a 40 week/9 month journey with me ๐Ÿ™‚

Let me know what goal you are going to aim for – you know mine…..

I will be updating you on progress – running, strength, mobility, weight – in 40 weeks I can make big positive changes so watch this space……

Here I am after a 6.5k training run this morning – I loved it today

Hey,Eileen, firstly I’m so excited and impressed that you are undertaking this challenge! I will also will be there on the day to cheer you on!

My goal is to work towards financial freedom by becoming more financially savvy and stop wasting money!Specifically, become debt free ,have an emergency fund in place, as well as have started regularly investing
I will break this down into small achievable goals and a big one is to stop smoking and drinking(following another one of your achievements), because as we speak I’m 23 days AF, so by 26th April will have hopefully clocked up 10 months๐Ÿ™๐Ÿฝ

Hi Nichole and some great goals there and I am delighted you have been AF for almost a month now. Definately break it all down into smaller achievable steps. I am also looking at what I spend – so that should be much improved for me by the London Marathon and great that you will be there on the day. Keep updating and staying on track. Proud of you – and actually not drinking alcohol is a great money saver

    Lovely blog Eileen
I’m currently relocating from France back to the uk …that’s my focus but once back in September I’ll definitely be looking for a goal and will tie it in with your marathon timing โค๏ธ
