What better way to treat yourself while you are growing a baby than to have a massage – and it is way more than a treat or a pamper as it has amazing benefits.
Baby also benefits from massage as ‘feel good” endorphins are released by the mother and passed on via the umbilical cord. It is not unusual to feel baby kick and move as they respond to massage treatment.

Please be aware that massage is not advised during the first trimester of pregnancy.
Benefits of Massage During Pregnancy:
It can help with common pregnancy complaints such as oedema, sciatica, carpal tunnel, nausea, pelvic girdle pain, headaches etc, as well as –
- Reduce emotional stress and anxiety
- Soothe aches, pains and release muscular tension
- Can raise endorphins, oxytocin dopamine and serotonin levels – they are the neurochemicals that make you feel happy
- Lymphatic drainage; enabling toxins to be eliminated effectively
Plus of course you are taking time out to unwind, relax and just focus on yourself and your baby.
Massage oil
A light base oil would be used for the massage – essential oils would be avoided. During the consultation I would discuss any allergies you might have and avoid oils with those products. Whichever oil is used your skin will be nourished and feel amazing.
Positions for a pregnancy massage
It can be tricky getting comfortable with a pregnancy bump – the use of cushions propped up while you lie on your side will help with getting into a comfy position – but at any point always let me know if you need to move and get comfy again.
You can also sit up or semi recline – whichever feels right for you.
Massaging the pregnancy bump
There’s no evidence to say that soft, gentle massaging of your bump itself is harmful but some might not want this and sometimes that area is more sensitive. I will ask during the consultation if you want this area lightly massaged. It might be you would prefer me to show you how you can massage your bump which your partner might also want to do for you.
I can also show you some massage techniques that will come in handy for labour and can also show you some strokes that other children you might have can do for you during your pregnancy – they love to get involved as well.
Having treatments during pregnancy is a well deserved treat as well as having lots of great benefits.
Why not have a facial treatment as well? Please See my treatments page for more information.
And, …….. once your baby arrives, when they are about six weeks old, then it is time for a baby massage.
