Days 3 to 5 update

Hi – been busy so not updated on anything for last couple of days. Am about to go away for the weekend so will keep this short for now. I have been exercising everyday (20  min DVD in morning followed by 30 minute walk with dog and little bit of rebounding a couple of evenings) but didn’t do anything this morning cos my left ankle is acting a bit weird – and thought best to give it a rest this morning. I broke it almost 3 years ago and sometime after it had healed I did start running – and was getting good if I say so myslef – but then a few weeks into training, my ankle was really puffy and swelling up bad, so I had to stop. I found out that I have osteoporosis in that ankle. I was therefore wondering if the impact from some of the exercise I have been doing this week is affecting my ankle. I will see how it goes but I had some other foot problems recently and couldn’t walk properly for a good few months, so I need to be careful with it and be sensible.

I will think about some low impact stuff I can do – will think about this over the weekend while I am away.

OH ….almost forgot that I do around 40 minutes walking a day broken up into 10 minute slots as I walk to work then home for lunch, back to work then home again – so am feeling the benefits of those short bursts.

So – really I have been sticking to eating good food,  doing exercise and am feeling better than I was this time last week thats for sure :-)

This is the title of a song by Jennifer Lopez and it brings a smile to my face cos I love it! For me this is a fantastic song to listen to while exercising, walking or even just doing the housework – or putting on if you feel down – cos it is SO lively you can’t help feel lively as well (well it works for me). I love the video to – so have a watch and enjoy – and I hope it makes you feel alive and smiley :-)

My Very Own Personal Trainer

Yep – my trainer is Jillian Michaels who some of you may know of if you have ever watched the Biggest Loser. Well she’s my trainer via my DVD – 30 Day Shred!. I am on day 2 of this now – so early days yet. I like this DVD cos it’s only 20 minutes long and there are 3 circuits in that 20 minutes.

There are 3 circuits of:

  • 3 minutes strengh
  • 2 minutes of cardio
  • 1 minute of abs

The exercises are not all the same either so no chance to get bored. By the way – for those of you who have worked out that the above does not come to 20 minutes – the rest of it is warm up and cool down :-)

There are also 3 levels so I can go from hardly being able to do level 1 – and improve up to level 3. I think I will do level 1 for 30 days, then level 2 for next 30 days and then get to level 3. Well thats the plan anyway.

I can feel it working my legs today – I can tell I have worked out! I think thats a combination of some of the lunges but also doing jumping jacks! I am SOOOOO out of condition it’s unreal – but I know I need to keep going and things will improve.

Besides doing this each morning – getting up at 6am for this -  I am also going for a 30 minute walk with the dog and am doing some short rebounding sessions in the evening (starting at 5 minutes and will add 5 minutes each week). I like rebounding (mini trampoline) cos there is no impact on joints like with running. I have a problem if I run (well I can barely run so there’s the first problem lol) but I have osteoarthritis in one ankle so it flared up and was painful when I did so some running training – that was ages ago now.

SO…..I should start feeling the benefits of eating good and exercising. Will let you know how I get on.

Day 2 – another challenge!

In 2006, I challenged myself to do the Inca Trail and raised money for Macmillan Cancer Support (was called Macmillan Cancer Relief then). I managed that challenge – and it really was a challenge!!! I trained hard for it and did struggle for some of it – but made it all the same, as you can see from the photo.

I am on another challenge now – to lose this excess weight I have just about had enough of and to get fit – and stay fit!!! I can’t believe where 7 years have gone to since I did the Inca Trail trek. It’s scary really – and not sure why I didn’t keep up the exercising I was doing. Crazy but there you go. I can’t go back – can only move forward.

So – am on day 2 now of setting new habits into place and so far so good. (Yes I know its only 2 days – but its 2 days more than I have done in a LONG time lol)

I will tell you a bit more about my exercising routine in another post so look out for that – but am on my way and feeling good.

Day 1 – a new start

“If only I started a month ago, 6 months ago, a year ago”……..is something I often say to myself with regards to exercise and weight loss. I start…then am not consistent enough so results don’t last and I end up back at square one all the time. I am just about fed up with myself now, so am going to be consistent from now on and measure week by week how I am improving healthwise. Therefore a year from TODAY ( which will be 23rd April 2014) WILL show the results of starting today and keeping on going :-)

I have set myself an overall target for my weight loss and have also set this weeks goals. I will only write out a week’s worth of goals at a time so it does’nt look too overwhelming, plus I can adjust my goals to how I am improving. I was up early this morning (6am) to do an exercise DVD (will talk more about that in another post) and then went for a walk with the dog for around half hour or so. It wasn’t exactly a power walk but it was a walk – I can build into powerwalking over the next few weeks.

So, I can tick off 2 of my goals for today so thats a good start. Will be updating more so keep an eye out if you want to see how I am getting on.

Have you got something you want to start and see an improvement in? It doesn’t have to be health and fitness (although it’s a good place to start if you are not in the best of health/fitness). It could be taking up a new hobby and seeing how you get from the beginners stage to intermediate then advanced – dancing, photography, learning a language or maybe some sort of craft such as knitting, crochet or sewing? Why not start today and see how your year produces results.

A year goes FAST as we know.

Starting today…again

OK – so I decided that I would start a blog just about general “stuff” that I am up to – with one main thing being the fact I have got to lose weight and get fitter than I am, and having this blog should make me accountable. Well that’s what I am hoping for so lets see how that works out!

That’s why I chose the picture to go with this blog – I can’t go back but am starting TODAY.…so watch this space for updates on my weight loss journey and other things I am getting up to. (It probably won’t be very exciting though haha)
